Rec Brew Firefly
Firefly is a vibrant New England-style Double IPA that captures an intense sensory profile through a heavy double dry-hopping of Luminosa and Strata hops. The aroma is a saturated tropical explosion of guava, papaya, and fresh strawberry, underscored by a subtle dankness and zesty lemonade notes. On the palate, the soft, bready malt foundation allows the hops to shine, delivering layers of passion fruit and grapefruit with a smooth, velvety texture. This collaboration between Rec Brew and TALM Brewing Project balances its 8% strength with a juicy, low-bitterness finish that remains remarkably drinkable and impressively complex.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange with a dense, persistent creamy white head. Significant opaque haze is prominent, typical of the modern hazy style, with fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma dominated by tropical fruits like papaya and guava from Luminosa, paired with the distinctive passion fruit and strawberry notes of Strata. Subtle citrus zest and a hint of resinous dankness are supported by a light, bready, and grainy malt background.
Taste. Initial burst of sweet tropical fruit and berry flavors. The malt is soft and neutral, providing a pillowy platform for peach and grapefruit notes. Bitterness is moderate but smooth and well-integrated, lacking any harshness. The finish is juicy and clean with a lingering tropical fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, creamy, and pillowy texture. Moderate carbonation. Alcohol warmth is well-integrated and smooth, providing a pleasant glow without being solventy or hot.
