Reading Material is a hop-saturated Double IPA brewed in collaboration with Lyric Brewing Company, designed for maximum sensory impact. It pours a glowing, opaque yellow with a dense, fluffy mouthfeel that supports an intense profile of Freestyle Nelson, Nelson Hyperboost, Freestyle Motueka, and Galaxy hops. This potent blend delivers concentrated aromas of candied papaya and peach fruit leathers, accented by zesty grapefruit peel and orange candy. At 8.5% ABV, it maintains a smooth, integrated warmth, balancing its high-intensity tropical fruit character against a clean malt backdrop, resulting in an exceptionally saturated and modern hop experience.
Appearance. Glowing, opaque yellow (4–6 SRM). Features a thick, persistent white head with dense, creamy lacing and excellent retention.
Aroma. Intensity is high, dominated by tropical and stone fruit. Distinctive notes of papaya, peach, and white grape from the Nelson variants. Secondary aromas of grapefruit zest and orange candy. Malt is neutral and grainy; fermentation is clean with light fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit and citrus. Prominent flavors of candied papaya, peach fruit leathers, and grapefruit pith. Medium-high bitterness that is firm but lacks harshness. Malt provides a soft, grainy support without being heavy. Finish is medium-dry with a lingering, saturated hop resin aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a fluffy, creamy, and dense texture. Carbonation is moderate. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable. Negligible hop-derived astringency.
