This Imperial Stout, a collaboration between Range Brewing and Finback Brewery, presents an unapologetically decadent sensory profile inspired by freshly sugared churros. The experience is dominated by waves of aromatic cinnamon sugar and the floral, creamy depth of Tahitian vanilla. Organic cacao nibs provide a robust foundation of rich dark chocolate, while Bee One Third honey adds a nuanced, native Australian floral sweetness late in the palate. The base is an incredibly robust, jet-black ale that balances intense roasted malts with a slick, dessert-like complexity, finishing with a lingering warmth and a velvety, pastry-inspired richness.
Appearance. Jet black and fully opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a dense, creamy, deep tan head showing moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich layers of spicy cinnamon and sweet vanilla bean predominate, supported by deep bittersweet chocolate and cocoa from organic cacao nibs. Moderate toasted malt and a subtle floral honey character meld with light esters of dried plums and a noticeable but smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Intensely decadent. Initial impressions of cinnamon sugar and creamy Tahitian vanilla transition into a mid-palate of rich, dark chocolate and roasted grain. Moderate bitterness is largely offset by significant residual sweetness and the floral qualities of Bee One Third honey. The finish is long and sweet with lingering notes of spice, cocoa, and warming alcohol.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied with a thick, slick, and chewy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the velvety and luscious mouthfeel. A noticeable, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout.
