This Imperial Smoothie Sour, a collaboration with One Drop, presents a decadent and expressive profile. Intense aromas of Romanian and Oregon Blueberries lead, followed by the juicy, stone-fruit sweetness of Australian Nectarine. Tahitian vanilla beans and a generous addition of milk sugar create a luxurious, dessert-like character that balances the vibrant lactic acidity. The result is a Wild Specialty Beer that feels out of this world, offering a thick, smoothie-like consistency where the tartness of the fruit is rounded out by creamy vanilla and silky lactose, finishing with a lingering, fruit-forward richness that masks its significant strength.
Appearance. Deep, saturated magenta to royal purple and completely opaque with a thick, fruit-puree consistency. It pours with a dense, soft pink head that shows moderate retention and leaves heavy fruit residue on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity aromatics of fresh-picked blueberries and jammy nectarine. Distinctive Tahitian vanilla beans contribute a floral, sweet perfume that mingles with a rich, creamy milk sugar scent. A clean, sharp lactic acidity underpins the fruit, without significant hop aroma or funk.
Taste. An immediate explosion of tart blueberry skin and juicy, ripe nectarine flesh. The mid-palate is dominated by a velvety sweetness from the milk sugar and Tahitian vanilla beans, which softens the assertive acidity. The balance is fruit-forward and tart but never harsh. The finish is long and expressive, focusing on the interplay between the tart fruit acids and the creamy, dessert-like sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and remarkably viscous with a heavy, coating smoothie texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing enough lift to prevent the beer from becoming cloying. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, adding to the substantial presence of the beer.
