Count the Miles is a vibrant West Coast Double IPA that balances old-school intensity with modern refinement. A predominantly Pilsner malt base creates a lean, crackery foundation, allowing an assertive hop profile to take center stage. NZ Cascade Amplifire, Chinook, Centennial, and Amarillo combine to deliver punchy aromas of fresh pineapple, resinous pine, and bright citrus zest. On the palate, a wave of oozy resin and pithy grapefruit transitions into a snappy, lingering bitterness. Despite its strength, the mouthfeel remains crisp and dry, emphasizing the interplay of classic piney notes and tropical nuances for a nostalgic yet polished drinking experience.
Appearance. Light yellow (SRM 3-4) with exquisite clarity and a brilliant luster. Topped with a moderate-sized, persistent white head that leaves fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent pineapple, resinous pine, and a distinctive citrus whiff. Low, grainy-sweet malt character in the background with a clean fermentation profile and no solventy alcohol.
Taste. Initial hop-forward punch of resin and crispy pine, followed by layers of pithy citrus and tropical fruit. Low, clean malt support. High bitterness that is snappy and balanced, leading to a very dry, lingering bitter finish.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, lean texture. Moderate-high carbonation. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth that remains smooth and lacks harshness.
