This celebratory Double IPA commands attention with an explosive aromatic profile of resinous pine, zesty grapefruit, and ripe mango. Despite its substantial 11% ABV, the beer maintains a surprisingly clean profile, showcasing a lean, light-gold body that allows the hops to dominate. A subtle backbone of toasted grain and crackers provides just enough support for the aggressive, yet smooth, bitterness. The finish is remarkably dry for such a high-strength ale, leaving a lingering trail of citrus rind and floral spice. Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange-copper with excellent clarity. Pours with a moderate-sized, off-white, persistent head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring heavy resinous pine, crushed citrus peel, and hints of tropical stone fruit. Background malt is clean and neutral with a faint grainy sweetness. Very low fruity esters and a subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth without solvent notes.
Taste. High hop bitterness that is firm but lacks harshness. Flavors mirror the aroma with prominent grapefruit, resin, and floral notes. The malt provides a low, soft support of lightly toasted bread. Finishes very dry and clean with a long-lasting, bitter hop aftertaste and a smooth alcoholic presence.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth texture. Carbonation is medium-high. A noticeable but restrained and smooth alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its high strength, without being abrasive or astringent.
