Ramses Roggestout Vintage is a complex Old Ale that marries historical Dutch traditions with the assertive character of Islay scotch. The deep, dark mahogany pour releases an intense bouquet of peated smoke, iodine, and sea spray, directly inherited from Laphroaig oak whisky barrels. Beneath the smoke, a rich malt architecture features spicy Rye and smooth Wheat, layering notes of molasses and dark fruit with a subtle bready foundation. The palate is viscous and warming, revealing flavors of dried figs, charred oak, and a vinous oxidation reminiscent of fine Sherry. It concludes with a lingering, smoky finish and a pleasant, wood-aged dryness.

Appearance. Deep reddish-brown to near black (22–30 SRM). Moderate to low tan head with average retention; oily legs are visible on the glass after swirling.

Aroma. High intensity with dominant medicinal peat smoke and charred oak from the Laphroaig barrels. Secondary notes of molasses, dark fruit (plum, raisin), and a distinct peppery spice from the rye. Subtle oxidative notes of Sherry and leather are present.

Taste. Luscious malt complexity featuring toffee, molasses, and bready wheat, quickly met by a sharp rye spiciness. Strong flavors of peat, earth, and iodine from the whisky aging provide a savory contrast. Bitterness is moderate but firm, balancing the malt sweetness. The finish is long and vinous with lingering wood tannins and smoke.

Mouthfeel. Full and chewy body with a creamy texture from the wheat and rye. Carbonation is low to moderate. Noticeable alcohol warmth is present but integrated. Light tannic astringency from the oak barrels adds structure.
