Raduga The Devil’s Stout
This Sweet Stout presents a decadent fusion of velvety textures and rich, dessert-like aromatics. Dark roasted malts provide a foundation of cocoa and light espresso, while additions of vanilla beans impart a lush, aromatic sweetness. The inclusion of blueberries adds a nuanced, jammy fruit layer that cuts through the creaminess provided by lactose and flaked oats. Exceptionally smooth on the palate, the beer balances its moderate bitterness with a luscious, full-bodied presence, finishing with a lingering harmony of dark fruit and creamy vanilla that belies its diabolical name.
Appearance. Opaque, deep ebony to jet black (35-40 SRM). Topped by a dense, persistent tan head with fine carbonation bubbles and excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity featuring prominent vanilla bean and sweet cream. Behind the vanilla, notes of milk chocolate and light roasted coffee emerge, complemented by a subtle, dark berry fruitiness from the blueberries. Hop aroma is absent.
Taste. Initial impression of sweet chocolate and creamy vanilla, followed by a soft, jammy blueberry character. Moderate bitterness (30 IBU) prevents the lactose and vanilla from becoming cloying. The malt profile is roasty but smooth, avoiding burnt acridity. The finish is long, sweet, and redolent of berries and cream.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and notably creamy due to the addition of lactose and oats. Carbonation is moderate and soft. Smooth, coating texture with no astringency and very low, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
