Pyrene’s Tequila Sunrise reimagines the traditional Gose as a vibrant, margarita-inspired elixir. This hazy, pale yellow ale greets the senses with an immediate citrus punch of fresh lime, intertwined with a subtle, earthy heat from chili habanero. A soft, bready malt base provides a smooth foundation that balances the sharp lactic tartness typical of the style. A delicate addition of salt enhances the mouthfeel and brightens the palate, while the habanero adds a nuanced, warming complexity without overwhelming the refreshing character. It finishes bone-dry and crisp, leaving a lingering trail of citrus zest and a gentle, spicy tingle.
Appearance. 3-4 SRM. Pale yellow with a moderate to full haze. Features a moderate white head with tight bubbles and fair retention. Highly effervescent.
Aroma. High intensity of fresh lime zest and bright citrus esters. Low bready, doughy wheat malt character. A distinct but integrated floral and spicy note from the chili habanero is present. No hop aroma or fermentation byproducts like diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impression of sharp lime acidity and a quick prickle of habanero spice. Moderate bready malt flavor provides a brief counterpoint to the medium-high sourness. A noticeable but restrained salt character provides a savory, mouthwatering quality. Very low bitterness with no hop flavor. The finish is dry and fully attenuated, with acidity and spice providing the balance. Aftertaste is clean with a lingering lime-and-pepper tingle.
Mouthfeel. Medium body, feeling slightly rounder than a standard wheat beer due to the salt and 6% alcohol. High carbonation and very effervescent. A light, pleasant warmth is present from both the alcohol and the habanero capsaicin. Low astringency.
