This collaboration between Pyrene and Mononoke delivers a refined Baltic Porter that balances approachable strength with deep complexity. Rich base malts provide a sturdy foundation of toasted bread, English toffee, and roasted nuts, layered with sophisticated notes of dark chocolate and espresso without reaching burnt or acrid territory. Dark fruit esters, reminiscent of dried plums and black cherries, weave through the profile, supported by a clean fermentation character. While lighter in alcohol than traditional examples, it maintains the signature smoothness and a dryish, lingering finish that highlights subtle licorice and cocoa for a highly drinkable experience.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to nearly opaque dark brown with garnet highlights; features a thick, persistent tan head with fine lacing and excellent clarity.
Aroma. High intensity malt-forward aroma featuring dark chocolate, molasses, and toasted crusts. Distinctive esters of raisins and prunes are present, with a background of licorice and no detectable hop aroma.
Taste. Initial rich malt sweetness of caramel and nutty malt gives way to a smooth, roasted character. Notes of coffee bean and dark fruit esters—specifically black currant—dominate the mid-palate. Low spicy hop flavor provides a delicate counterpoint to the malt, leading to a dryish finish with a clean aftertaste of roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively, mouth-filling sensation that prevents the malt richness from feeling heavy or cloying.
