Purtse Brewery Kähkukas
Kähkukas is a vibrant Hazy IPA crafted for high drinkability without sacrificing sensory impact. Built on a base of Extra Pale malt, Flaked Oats, and Wheat Malt, it offers a soft, pillowy foundation for a massive dry-hop addition of Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic. These hops deliver a pungent tropical punch of pineapple, guava, and mango, layered with honeydew melon and bright citrus notes of orange and mandarin. A subtle floral geranium note adds complexity. Despite its sessionable strength, the Lallemand New England yeast ensures a juicy, ester-driven profile that harmonizes with the resinous hints from Columbus kettle hopping, resulting in an exceptionally refreshing experience.
Appearance. Straw to light gold (SRM 3–5). Features a persistent, rocky, meringue-like white head with high retention and significant lacing. Exhibits a characteristic opaque haze with a soft, glowing shine, free of visible yeast clumps or hop particulates.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical fruits including pineapple, guava, and mango, complemented by citrus notes of orange and mandarin. Distinctive honeydew melon and a touch of floral geranium are present. The malt provides a low, grainy, bready backbone. Fermentation character is clean but supportive with light fruity esters; no diacetyl or DMS.
Taste. High fruity hop flavor mirroring the aroma with intense layers of mango, pineapple, and citrus. Low bready malt flavor provides a soft platform. Bitterness is low to medium-low, well-integrated and never harsh, contributing to a juicy impression. The finish is off-dry and smooth with a lingering tropical and citrus aftertaste. No harshness or resinous astringency.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a soft, pillowy texture from the use of flaked oats and wheat. Medium carbonation. Exceptionally smooth with no alcohol warmth and no detectable astringency or raw starchiness.
