This Oatmeal Stout offers a sophisticated, botanical evolution of the traditional style, integrating roasted malts with unique earthy additions. High intensity aromas of coffee-and-cream are driven by the marriage of dark grains and vanilla, while chicory deepens the roasted profile with woody undertones. The inclusion of dandelion adds a subtle, rustic herbal complexity that works in tandem with the earthy qualities of the oats. On the palate, wheat and oats provide a substantial, velvety foundation, allowing the vanilla to soften the roasted edges. The result is a complex, medium-full-bodied ale where the botanical bitterness balances a gentle, malt-driven sweetness.
Appearance. Opaque black in color (SRM 38). Topped by a thick, creamy, and highly persistent tan head that leaves dense lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with prominent notes of roasted coffee, milk chocolate, and earthy chicory. A distinct vanilla sweetness provides a coffee-and-cream impression, complemented by a low herbal, floral aroma from the dandelion. Malt character is grainy and nutty with low dark fruit esters.
Taste. Initial impression is of rich roasted grain and dark chocolate. The flavor profile is layered with earthy, nutty oats and a unique botanical bitterness from the chicory and dandelion. Vanilla provides a smoothing, rounding effect that balances the medium bitterness. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering aftertaste of roasted malt and toasted bread.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth, silky, and velvety texture derived from the oats and wheat. Carbonation is moderate. Displays a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth and a creamy, coating mouthfeel without astringency.
