This Imperial Stout presents a decadent sensory profile anchored by eight varieties of English malt, yielding deep notes of biscuit, wafer, and toasted nuts. The addition of lightly toasted Peru cocoa nibs and Madagascar vanilla creates a rich confectionery layer of bittersweet chocolate and creamy sweetness. A specialty coffee blend from Guatemala and Ethiopia introduces a complex roast character, offering bright, aromatic coffee highlights that cut through the dense malt body. At 9.1% ABV, the beer exhibits a smooth, integrated warmth. The experience concludes with a healthy bitterness that balances the lingering caramel and cocoa, resulting in a harmonious, multidimensional finish.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40 SRM). Pours with a thick, dense, dark tan head that shows good retention and leaves persistent lacing. High viscosity is evident in the slow-moving legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of bittersweet chocolate, toasted cocoa, and rich espresso. The Madagascar vanilla adds a sweet, creamy top note, while the English malt base provides underlying toasted biscuit and caramel. Low dark fruit esters like prune are present, alongside a subtle, clean alcohol warmth.
Taste. An intense, multi-layered profile of roasted grain, dark chocolate, and fresh-ground coffee. Initial malt sweetness of caramel and biscuit is quickly met by firm hop bitterness and roasted acridity. The Peru cocoa nibs provide a mid-palate richness, while the Madagascar vanilla softens the roast. The finish is bittersweet and lingering, showing a harmonious balance between coffee-driven acidity and malt depth.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is moderate to low, enhancing the creamy profile. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is noticeable but well-integrated, with no harshness or astringency.
