This Imperial Stout presents a deep, wintry intensity defined by a soul-black pour and a robust infusion of Tetecoloh Cafe espresso. The sensory profile is led by the sharp, aromatic punch of fresh espresso, weaving seamlessly into a foundation of bittersweet chocolate and heavily roasted malts. Designed for the cold, its 8.1% alcohol presence provides a well-integrated warmth, supporting a rich tapestry of dark fruit esters like dried figs and raisins. The finish is assertive and roasty, balancing a decadent malt sweetness with a firm, lingering bitterness and coffee-driven depth that invites slow sipping and holiday contemplation.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40 SRM). Pours with a dense, deep tan head of moderate retention. High viscosity is visible as legs on the glass when swirled.
Aroma. High intensity fragrance dominated by Tetecoloh Cafe espresso and dark-roasted coffee beans. Significant malt character of bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, and lightly burnt grain. Low but noticeable esters suggesting dried plums and raisins. Hop aroma is very low and earthy.
Taste. An intense initial impression of roasted grain and sharp espresso. The mid-palate reveals layers of dark chocolate, toasted bread, and a hint of black licorice. Bitterness is medium-high, derived from both roasted grains and the coffee infusion. The finish is moderately dry with a lingering aftertaste of charred malt and espresso. Alcohol is present but smooth.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full-bodied with a chewy, velvety, and luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A gentle, smooth alcohol warmth is noticeable in the throat.
