Prizm Brewing Co.’s Revenant reimagines the classic Baltic Porter through a decadent lens of praline, chocolate, and vanilla. This lager-fermented dark ale presents a sophisticated profile where deep toasted Munich malt provides a nutty backbone for the adjunct-driven sweetness. Rich layers of dark chocolate and creamy vanilla interlace with the style’s signature dark fruit esters, reminiscent of plums and raisins. At 7% ABV, it offers a gentle, deceptive warmth that complements its smooth, medium-full body. The finish is remarkably clean, balancing lingering confectionery notes with a soft, roasted dryness that prevents the praline richness from becoming cloying.

Appearance. Dark mahogany to opaque deep brown (SRM 28); features a thick, persistent tan-colored head with excellent lacing; clear but appears opaque in the glass due to depth of color.

Aroma. High intensity of sweet praline and milk chocolate, supported by aromatic vanilla beans. Moderate rich malt notes of toasted bread, hazelnuts, and light molasses. Subtle esters of dark cherry and prune are present; clean fermentation profile with no detectable hop aroma.

Taste. Initial impression is malty-sweet, showcasing layers of chocolate-covered nuts and creamy vanilla. The mid-palate reveals complex dark fruit flavors and a smooth, Schwarzbier-like roasted grain character. Bitterness is medium-low (approx. 25 IBU), providing just enough balance for the adjunct sweetness. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering hint of roasted coffee, licorice, and cocoa.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a very smooth, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a mouth-filling sensation without feeling heavy on the tongue. Well-integrated, deceptive alcohol warmth; no astringency.
