Batiscafo is an intensely aromatic Double IPA that showcases a sophisticated hop profile through a collaboration with Escafandrista. The heavy use of Strata, in both T90 and concentrated CGX forms, drives a pungent sensory experience of passion fruit and strawberry, underscored by a notable dankness. El Dorado layers in tropical sweetness reminiscent of pineapple and melon, while Zappa adds complex notes of purple grape and savory spice. Oregon-grown Chinook provides a grounding resinous pine and grapefruit bitterness. Despite its 8% strength, the beer maintains a clean, lean malt profile and a dry finish, allowing the multi-layered hop character to remain the undisputed focal point.

Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper (SRM 7-10). Topped with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves resilient lacing. Clarity is good, though a very slight hop-derived haze is present.

Aroma. Intensity is high, dominated by a complex bouquet of tropical fruit, berry, and resin. Bold passion fruit and strawberry notes from Strata mingle with pineapple from El Dorado. A classic resinous pine and citrus edge from Chinook is present, alongside a unique spicy and herbal dankness from Zappa. Malt is low, neutral, and grainy in the background.

Taste. The initial impression is a burst of tropical and citrus hops. Mid-palate flavors include grapefruit, mango, and a subtle savory, spicy grape quality. Malt flavor is low and soft, serving only to support the high hop bitterness. The bitterness is firm and assertive but smooth, leading into a dry to medium-dry finish with a lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the significant hop load. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crispness that aids drinkability. A well-integrated, restrained alcohol warmth is present without being solventy or harsh.
