This Double IPA presents a bold sensory experience led by an intense hop quartet. Chinook provides a resinous, piney backbone, while Simcoe adds layers of earthy passion fruit and berry. Bright citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon emerge from the Cascade, rounded out by the punchy tropical mango and lime character of Citra. Though described as slightly malty, the clean, grainy malt profile acts as a supportive stage for the high bitterness rather than competing with it. It finishes dry and crisp despite its 8.8% strength, offering a well-integrated alcohol warmth that enhances the lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste.
Appearance.Deep gold to light copper (8-12 SRM). Clear to brilliant clarity with a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head that leaves significant lacing.
Aroma.Intense hop aroma characterized by resinous pine, grapefruit zest, and tropical mango. Supportive malt is low, presenting as clean, neutral grain or very light toast. Fermentation is clean, though a subtle, smooth alcohol note is present.
Taste.Strong and complex hop flavors of citrus pith, pine needles, and tropical fruit dominate. Bitterness is very high but clean and devoid of harshness. A low, unobtrusive malt character provides a soft, bready foundation. The finish is medium-dry to dry with a long-lasting, bitter, hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively mouthfeel. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its 8.8% ABV without being solventy.
