Põhjala Spelt Incorrectly
This Hazy IPA, a collaboration with Cloudwater and Barth Haas X, delivers an intensely juicy sensory experience driven by a heavy dry-hop of El Dorado, Mosaic, and Citra. The aroma is a tropical explosion of mango, blueberry, and bright citrus, supported by a soft, bready malt base enhanced by the addition of spelt flakes. On the palate, the fruit-forward hop character dominates, delivering waves of ripe stone fruit and melon with a restrained, smooth bitterness. The spelt flakes contribute a subtle nutty complexity and a plush, pillowy texture that carries vibrant hop oils through a clean, off-dry finish that remains exceptionally drinkable.
Appearance. Straw to light gold (4-5 SRM). High opacity with a luminous, hazy shine. Dense, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet featuring tropical mango, crushed blueberry, and sweet citrus zest from Mosaic and Citra. Hints of watermelon and pear from El Dorado. Background malt is grainy and lightly bready; fermentation is clean with subtle fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical juice. High hop flavor of pineapple, grapefruit, and stone fruit. Low to medium-low bitterness that is smooth and never harsh. The malt flavor is bready and slightly nutty from the spelt. Finishes soft and off-dry with a lingering tropical fruit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy, and smooth texture. Moderate carbonation. No harshness or astringency. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated at 6% ABV.
