Põhjala Routa 4.0 is an evocative, forest-driven IPA classified as a Fruit Beer, capturing the essence of the Finnish wilderness. Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (8–12 SRM) with a slight, natural haze. Features a dense, creamy off-white head with excellent retention and significant lacing that clings to the glass.
Aroma. High intensity aromatics lead with a bold mixture of sappy pine and crushed juniper needles. Behind the botanicals, a spicy malted rye character emerges, alongside hop-driven notes of grapefruit zest and resin. Fermentation is clean, allowing the interplay of spicy grain and evergreen berry to dominate.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, resinous strike of juniper and hop oils. A sturdy mid-palate of bready, spicy rye malt provides a complex foundation. Hop bitterness is firm and clean, supporting the forest flavors. The finish is notably dry and crisp, with a lingering botanical aftertaste of pine bark and citrus pith.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a slight silken quality provided by the malted rye. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing prickle that cuts through the resinous oils. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present.
