The foundation is built on robust roasted malts, delivering deep layers of dark chocolate and espresso. This is artfully layered with the marzipan-like sweetness of almonds and the bright, aromatic lift of orange peel. While the 6.8% ABV provides a gentle, well-integrated warmth, the palate remains rich and creamy. The assertive bitterness typical of the style is softened by nutty sweetness, resulting in a complex, full-bodied dark ale where citrus zest and roasted grains converge into a lingering, decadent finish.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40) with a large, persistent, light tan to mocha head that leaves thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity with dominant notes of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. A distinct nutty, marzipan-like almond character is complemented by zesty orange peel and subtle resinous hop notes.
Taste. Initial roasted grain and bittersweet chocolate flavors are followed by a rich, nutty almond sweetness. Bright orange peel provides a citrus counterpoint to the firm bitterness. The finish is medium-sweet and lingering with a roasted, festive character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, smooth texture. Moderate to medium-high carbonation. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is present but remains smooth and well-integrated.
