Inframundo is a formidable American Stout, commanding attention with its robust 9% ABV and deep, shadowy complexity. This dark, creamy ale strikes a balance between intense roasted bitterness and a foundational malt sweetness. Heady aromas of fresh-ground coffee and bittersweet chocolate lead the sensory experience, supported by a subtle charred grain character and a resinous hop presence. On the palate, the mouthfeel is viscous and full, offering a rich tapestry of toasted malt tones that transition into a surprisingly dry finish. Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40), topped by an abundant, persistent head of thick, light-brown foam with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roast dominates, characterized by dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. A slight hint of charred grain is present, alongside a moderate resinous and citrusy hop character. Clean, noticeable alcohol and very low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression of rich malt sweetness and aggressive roasted bitterness. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate and espresso prevail, followed by a slight scorched-grain edge. Hop bitterness is firm and lingering, with citrusy flavor notes. The finish is dry with a clean, warming aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied with a luxurious, creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively lift. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or fusel. Low roast-derived astringency.
