Pipeworks Brewing Company Dark Space is a lush Hazy IPA that plunges the palate into a deep, fruit-saturated abyss. The interplay of Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin, and Idaho 7 hops creates a dense sensory profile defined by crushed gooseberry, passionfruit, and resinous pineapple. A grain bill featuring flaked oats provides a velvety, opaque structure, supporting the intense hop saturation without the distraction of sharp bitterness. Aromas of white wine grapes and tropical citrus lead into a smooth, pillowy body that finishes with a soft, juicy resonance. It is a masterful exploration of hop-forward depth, balancing a clean malt backbone with expansive, cosmic fruit complexity.
Appearance. SRM 4–6. Pours a deep straw to light gold with a distinct, opaque haze providing a vibrant shine. Features a thick, rocky, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and significant lacing.
Aroma. High-intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical and vinous notes. Nelson Sauvin provides distinct white wine grape and gooseberry, while Galaxy contributes passionfruit and citrus. Idaho 7 adds a layer of ripe pineapple and subtle pine. Low bready and grainy malt character exists in the background; clean fermentation with light fruity esters.
Taste. Explosive hop flavors mirror the aroma, leading with passionfruit, mango, and a juicy grape character. The malt flavor is low, presenting as lightly bready or grainy. Bitterness is moderate but perceived as soft and well-integrated, never harsh. The balance is heavily hop-forward, finishing off-dry with a lingering tropical fruit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth, soft, and pillowy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its 7.3% ABV. No astringency or harshness.
