This Foreign Extra Stout presents an aromatic fusion of a dark British base with the comforting elements of a vanilla latte. The sensory profile is led by intense roast notes of espresso and dark chocolate, softened by a distinct and fragrant vanilla presence. On the palate, the roast provides a sturdy, bitter foundation that is immediately rounded out by a creamy, milk-like sweetness and smooth vanilla bean flavors. While the style usually finishes dry, the latte additions provide a fuller, more balanced impression, ending with a clean but lingering cocoa and coffee aftertaste.
Appearance. Opaque, deep black (SRM 38) with a large, dense, persistent tan head and significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roast character featuring dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee. Pronounced sweet vanilla aromatics intermingle with subtle molasses and very low earthy hop notes.
Taste. Rich initial impression of dark roasted grains and cocoa. Medium-high bitterness is present but tempered by the smooth, sweet vanilla and a creamy latte-like character. Finishes moderately dry with a lingering roasted coffee and vanilla bean aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation and light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
