Pioneer Beer SUPERSTITION
This collaboration between Pioneer Beer and Godspeed yields a unique American IPA that bridges continental hop profiles. A complex blend of seven hops, including US varieties Mosaic, Talus, and Warrior alongside Czech cultivars Jupiter, Juno, Eris, and Pluto, creates an intricate sensory tapestry. The nose leads with vibrant citrus and resinous notes, unfolding into a distinctively herbal and earthy mid-palate. It presents a firm, clean bitterness that defines the style, supported by a lean, bready malt backbone. The finish is strikingly dry and lingering, showcasing a refined intersection of New World fruitiness and Old World herbal depth.
Appearance. Deep gold to light amber (approx. 7-9 SRM). Pours with a persistent, dense white head leaving intricate lacing. Brilliant clarity, though a very faint chill haze may be present.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma. Initial bursts of pink grapefruit and tropical fruit from Mosaic and Talus give way to complex herbal, spicy, and slightly damp-earth notes from the Czech hop blend. Low clean, crackery malt support. Fermentation is very clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Bold hop-forward presentation. Initial citrus zest and stone fruit flavors are quickly superseded by a sharp, resinous bitterness from Warrior. Mid-palate reveals sage, dried herbs, and woody earthiness. The malt is minimalist, providing just enough grainy sweetness to balance the high bitterness. Finishes very dry and crisp with a long-lasting, clean bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly resinous texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated. No astringency despite the high hopping rate.
