Imperial Stout 14 º
Memory is a decadent, pitch-black Imperial Stout that captures nearly two years of maturation in Rittenhouse Rye and Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels. The sensory experience is led by an intense fusion of barrel-aged coffee and toasted coconut, underpinned by the spicy warmth of cinnamon. On the palate, the influence of the rye and bourbon barrels manifests as rich vanilla, oak, and a subtle peppery spice that complements the deep, roasted malt character. At 14% ABV, it offers a luxurious, velvety depth where bittersweet chocolate and dark fruit notes meld with a lingering, spirit-forward complexity, creating a harmonious and sophisticated profile.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, deep tan head that shows low to moderate retention, leaving oily legs on the glass due to the high viscosity and coconut content.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of dark chocolate, espresso-like roasted malt, and prominent toasted coconut. Significant barrel influence provides notes of vanilla, caramel, and spicy rye. Distinctive cinnamon and fresh coffee aromatics are layered over moderate dark fruit esters resembling raisins and prunes.
Taste. Intense and complex; initial impressions of bittersweet chocolate and heavy roast are quickly met by creamy coconut and spicy cinnamon. The barrel aging contributes layers of bourbon sweetness, charred oak, and a peppery rye spice. Medium-high bitterness from both hops and roasted grains provides balance against the high residual sweetness. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of coffee and spirit.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally viscous with a chewy, velvety texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the luscious mouthfeel. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its high strength.
