This Imperial Stout offers a profound sensory journey, refined by over two years of aging in a blend of Banyuls, Wild Turkey, and Heaven Hill barrels. The aroma is dominated by an opulent, double-dose of Madagascar and Uganda vanilla pods, weaving together creamy sweetness with charred oak and bourbon-soaked caramel. On the palate, a dense foundation of dark chocolate and espresso meets the vinous, port-like complexity of fortified wine barrels, revealing notes of dried figs and raisins. The mouthfeel is exceptionally viscous and velvety, carrying a well-integrated warmth that lingers alongside a decadent, bittersweet finish of charred oak and spice.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40 SRM). Pours with a thick, dense, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. Distinctive oily legs and high viscosity are visible on the glass when swirled.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich layer of Madagascar and Uganda vanilla pods. Deep roasted malt notes of dark chocolate and cocoa nibs are complemented by the charred oak, coconut, and caramel from Wild Turkey and Heaven Hill barrels. A significant vinous character from the Banyuls barrels adds scents of plum, raisin, and fortified wine.
Taste. The initial impression is massive and sweet, led by layers of creamy vanilla and bittersweet chocolate. Mid-palate introduces complex wood tannins, bourbon spice, and a dark fruit depth reminiscent of figs and prunes. The finish is long and warming, balancing moderate hop bitterness with lingering notes of espresso, toasted oak, and rich dessert wine.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a chewy, luscious, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the beer's weight. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present but integrated, without being sharp or fusel.
