Descent is a commanding Smoked Imperial Porter that balances intense roasted grains with the sophisticated influence of twenty months in Heaven Hill barrels. Dark chocolate and espresso notes merge with a persistent campfire smoke, while the extended aging imparts deep layers of toasted oak, vanilla, and a warming bourbon character. This profile is underpinned by a robust malt bill that provides a rich, velvety foundation. The high gravity delivers a significant alcohol presence that is well-integrated, leading to a complex finish where earthy hop bitterness and charred wood notes linger long after the last sip.

Appearance. Opaque, deep ebony with faint mahogany highlights at the edges. Crowns with a dense, creamy, tan-colored head showing moderate retention and fine lacing.

Aroma. High intensity roast with dominant dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and a distinct layer of clean wood smoke. The Heaven Hill barrel influence is prominent, contributing notes of bourbon-soaked oak, sweet vanilla, and subtle coconut. Low earthy hop notes and moderate dark fruit esters are secondary to the rich malt and spirit character.

Taste. Initial impression is of intense bittersweet chocolate and heavily toasted bread, quickly followed by a savory, smoky depth. Mid-palate reveals complex barrel-derived flavors of caramel, oak tannin, and vanilla. Bitterness is firm and provides necessary structure against the rich malt sweetness.
