Phoenix Brewery Porter

Porter 5 º
This traditional English Porter presents a rich, dark sensory experience focused on malt depth. The profile is anchored by a moderate roasted character, delivering a distinct impression of bitter cocoa and a delicate hint of roasted coffee beans on the nose. Its foundation is built on bready and toasty malt notes, avoiding the harsh burnt qualities found in more aggressive styles. The balance leans slightly toward the malt, yet remains drinkable with a clean, medium-dry finish. Expect a smooth, approachable ale that highlights the classic British marriage of chocolate malt complexity and subtle earthy undertones, resulting in a refined and comforting pint.
Appearance. Deep brown with mahogany and ruby highlights (approximately 25–30 SRM). It features a moderate, creamy, light tan head with fair to good retention and light lacing. Generally clear, though it may appear opaque in a dim setting.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring bready and toasty malt aromas. A distinct layer of bitter cocoa is present, complemented by a hint of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate. Subtle earthy hop notes and a low level of fruity esters provide background complexity without being dominant.
Taste. Initial impression of rich, toasted bread and biscuit. The mid-palate develops significant chocolate roastiness and a bitter cocoa flavor, with low levels of coffee and toffee appearing as it warms. Hop bitterness is medium-low, providing just enough balance against the malt sweetness. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering nutty and cocoa aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a light, pleasant creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle prickle on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is negligible at 5% ABV, and there is no significant astringency from the dark grains.
