This coffee-infused Dark Mild showcases an elegant marriage between a traditional English session ale and McHenry’s Heady Cup 'Flo' coffee beans. The appearance is a clear, deep mahogany with a modest tan head. On the nose, the Central and South American medium roast delivers immediate notes of milk chocolate and freshly ground beans, layered over a foundation of fresh-baked biscuits and light toffee. The palate transitions into a smooth chocolate latte character, supported by a bready malt backbone and subtle British yeast fruitiness. Despite its complex roasty depth, it remains remarkably light-bodied and drinkable, finishing clean with a gentle, lingering cocoa sweetness.
Appearance. Mahogany to deep dark brown in color with good clarity. Features a low to moderate tan head with fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring a blend of chocolate-forward coffee and toasted malt. Distinctive notes of fresh-baked biscuits, cocoa, and light caramel are present, accompanied by very low earthy hop notes and subtle fruity esters.
Taste. The initial impression is malty and coffee-driven, reminiscent of a chocolate latte. A bready and biscuity malt base supports flavors of milk chocolate and light roast. Hop bitterness is low, providing just enough balance to keep the malt-focused profile from becoming cloying. The finish is clean and slightly off-dry with a short, pleasant aftertaste of toasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with low to moderate carbonation. Extremely smooth with no alcohol warmth and no detectable astringency from the coffee or roasted malts.

A couple months back Heady Cup, a coffee roaster from nearby McHenry, dropped off some beautiful coffee for us to sample. One thing led to another and we decided to try out some of their beans in Proper Trollied. After a cupping at their roastery we decided to go with their Flo, a medium roasted coffee blended from Central and South American coffee beans. Their chocolate forward coffee on top of our easy drinking, flavorful Dark English mild. Flavors reminiscent of chocolate latte and fresh baked biscuits.
