This luxurious Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer presents as a decadent Imperial Stout, elevated by a sophisticated collaboration with Sump Coffee. The profile is defined by the addition of Sump washed process coffee and Papua New Guinea Kunjin vanilla beans, which together create an aromatic profile of freshly pulled espresso and floral bean pods. Deep layers of dark chocolate and roasted malt provide a sturdy foundation for the bright, berry-like acidity of the coffee and the creamy, marshmallow-like sweetness of the Kunjin vanilla. It is a velvety, full-bodied experience that balances intense roasted bitterness with a plush, latte-like finish and warming alcohol.
Appearance.Opaque, ink-black (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, dense, dark tan head with excellent retention that leaves persistent lacing on the glass.
Aroma.High intensity. Dominated by rich, freshly roasted coffee and aromatic, floral vanilla beans. Beneath the adjuncts lie deep malt notes of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and toasted bread. Hop aroma is very low and earthy. Fermentation is clean with very low dark fruit esters.
Taste. The initial impression is sweet and creamy, quickly followed by a complex wave of washed coffee that brings notes of dark cherry and citrus. Malt flavors are robust, featuring bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and charred grain. The vanilla adds a spicy, floral depth that rounds out the moderate hop bitterness. The finish is long and lingering, striking a balance between coffee acidity and malt sweetness.
Mouthfeel.Full-bodied and viscous with a rich, coating texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. Alcohol warmth is significant and noticeable but smooth and well-integrated. Extremely creamy with no astringency from the coffee or roasted malts.
