Careless Sun is a vibrant American IPA that showcases a masterful hop-forward profile, leaning into the lush aromatic potential of its Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hop additions. These varieties orchestrate a sensory experience defined by bright citrus zest, juicy peach, and a distinct summer berry complexity. Despite its robust 7.6% strength, the beer maintains a light and supportive malt backbone with clean, grainy notes that elevate the hop character. The finish is deceptively smooth, offering a refined, light bitterness that balances the fruit-heavy palate without overwhelming the senses, resulting in a modern and exceptionally clean interpretation of the style.
Appearance. Pours a medium gold color (approximately 7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Topped by a medium-sized, white, frothy head with excellent persistence and fine-beaded lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-led aroma featuring prominent grapefruit and lime from Citra, coupled with Simcoe's resinous pine and stone fruit notes. Mosaic adds a layer of blueberry and tropical mango. Low, clean, grainy maltiness supports the hops without adding sweetness. Fermentation is clean with no detectable esters.
Taste. Immediate hop-forward impact of tangerine, ripe peach, and forest berries. Low, crackery malt flavor provides a neutral base that allows the hops to shine. Bitterness is moderate and integrated, leading to a medium-dry, clean finish that lacks harshness. Aftertaste is crisp with lingering notes of pine and citrus peel.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, well-rounded texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a refreshing prickle. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but remains well-integrated and never sharp or fusel.
