This Imperial Porter offers a sophisticated sensory experience, blending the robust intensity of an American Porter with the nuanced complexity of whisky barrel aging. The profile is anchored by deep roasted malts, delivering rich notes of dark chocolate, buttery toffee, and caramel. The integration of Columbus hops provides a firm, resinous bitterness that counters the malt richness and leads to a surprisingly dry finish. Oak maturation contributes distinct woody tannins and a smooth whisky warmth that lingers on the palate. At 9.3% ABV, this beer is well-structured and warming, harmonizing earthy hop character with layers of charred wood and sweet malt.

Appearance. Very dark brown, approaching black (38 SRM) with deep garnet highlights. Pours with a dense, creamy tan head that demonstrates excellent retention and leaves thick lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring medium-strong roasted malt notes of chocolate and coffee. Secondary layers of toffee and caramel sweetness are complemented by a moderate resiny and earthy hop character from the Columbus. Significant oak woodiness and spiritous whisky notes are present, with light dark fruit esters in the background.

Taste. Initial impression is rich and roasted with chocolate and lightly burnt malt flavors. The palate follows with supporting caramel and toffee notes. Medium-high bitterness from the Columbus hops and dark malts creates a firm balance. The finish is notably dry and lingering, lacking any acrid or acidic bite. Oak tannins and whisky flavors add complexity to the aftertaste.
