Curiosidad: durante los primeros años del Oktoberfest, la ley de elaboración de cerveza de Baviera de 1539 estipulaba que la cerveza solo se podía elaborar entre el día «Michaeli» o San Miguel el 29 de septiembre y el día de San Jorge, el 23 de abril. Estaba prohibido elaborar cerveza en el verano porque el proceso de ebullición se consideró un peligro de incendio. Además, la cerveza de fermentación baja necesita una temperatura de entre 4 y 6 ° C para la fermentación. Por supuesto, nadie quería renunciar a los placeres de beber cerveza en verano, por lo que se elaboró una cantidad excedente. Y tales son los orígenes de la cerveza conocida como Märzen. La última cerveza elaborada al final de la temporada de elaboración recibió una mayor gravedad para aumentar su vida útil, ya que la cerveza Märzen se vendería durante todo el verano y durante los festivales populares de otoño.
