This Imperial Stout presents an imposing sensory profile defined by its massive scale and intricate layers. The aroma is dominated by the addition of Honduras coffee, which contributes intense notes of freshly roasted beans, dark chocolate, and a hint of toasted hazelnut. Beneath the coffee, deep-seated malts provide a foundation of black treacle, licorice, and charred grain. On the palate, the eleven percent alcohol is masterfully integrated, providing a smooth, velvety warmth that carries flavors of dried figs and raisins. The finish is long and bittersweet, leaving a lingering impression of espresso and dark cocoa within a luxurious, chewy texture.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40 SRM). Topped with a thick, long-lasting deep tan head that leaves oily legs on the glass as the beer is swirled.
Aroma. High intensity of roasted Honduras coffee and dark chocolate. Secondary notes of black licorice, molasses, and toasted bread crusts. Moderate esters of prune and raisin are present, alongside a clean, smooth alcohol warmth and very low earthy hop character.
Taste. Intense initial flavors of espresso, dark-roasted malts, and bittersweet cocoa. The Honduras coffee provides a nutty complexity. Moderate sweetness is balanced by firm roasted bitterness and a medium-high hop bitterness. Dark fruit esters of fig and plum emerge mid-palate. The finish is long, warming, and bittersweet with a lingering roast character.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious, and thick texture. Low to moderate carbonation. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is present throughout without being sharp or solventy.
