Psychonaut is a lush Double IPA that emphasizes a thick, opaque texture and a saturation of modern hop character. Utilizing a heavy hand of El Dorado, Bru-1, Mosaic, and Citra, the profile leads with an intense tropical explosion of sweet pineapple and succulent mango. Subtle berry notes weave through the mid-palate, while a sharp, vibrant twist of fresh lemon and lime provides a necessary zesty counterpoint. This high-gravity ale balances its 8.4% ABV with a creamy, juicy mouthfeel, masking the strength behind a dense fruit-forward presence that lingers with a clean, resinous bitterness and a soft, supporting malt backbone.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (7-9 SRM). Opaque and hazy with a thick, long-lasting, frothy white head that leaves heavy, decorative lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma dominated by tropical fruits; high notes of pineapple from Bru-1 and stone fruit from El Dorado. Mosaic contributes complex berry and earthy undertones, while Citra adds a bright citrus punch of lime zest. Malt is secondary, appearing as a clean, soft bready sweetness with no detectable caramel or toast.
Taste. Initial impact is a wave of ripe mango and pineapple, transitioning into a medley of forest berries and sharp lemon-lime citrus. The malt provides a soft, neutral, grainy backdrop that supports the high hop load without becoming cloying. Bitterness is firm but smooth, balancing the juicy sweetness. The finish is medium-dry with a persistent, resinous hop aftertaste and low esters.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a soft, pillowy, and creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but remains smooth and lacks any harshness or solvent notes.
