Overtone Brewing Co

Midlife Crisis is a powerhouse Double IPA that leans into intense Triple IPA territory with a saturated hop profile. Dominated by Citra and Citra Incognito, the sensory profile leads with punchy lime and grapefruit, while El Dorado and El Dorado Cryo contribute lush stone fruit and watermelon notes. The addition of Idaho 7 and Idaho 7 Cryo provides a complex layer of resinous pine and black tea. Despite its 10% ABV, the malt remains clean and supportive, allowing the high hop bitterness to define the character. This All-American ale finishes dry with a lingering, vibrant fruitiness and a smooth, integrated alcohol warmth.

Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper in color. Displays a persistent, moderate-sized off-white head with excellent lacing. This modern example presents a slight to moderate haze from the extensive dry-hopping.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring a saturated blend of tropical and citrus notes. Prominent grapefruit and mango meet candy-like stone fruit and pear. Resinous pine and an herbal depth are evident in the background. Malt is a neutral, grainy whisper, complemented by a very light, clean alcohol note.

Taste. Initial impression is a massive hop-forward impact delivering layers of pineapple, citrus zest, and ripe melon. The bitterness is high and firm but lacks harshness, balanced by a soft, clean, and unobtrusive malt character. A light, smooth alcohol flavor supports the hop intensity. The finish is dry to medium-dry, leaving a long-lasting, resinous, and fruity aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a refreshing lift. A noticeable but well-restrained alcohol warmth glows on the palate without any solventy burn or hop-derived astringency.
