This fruited Berliner Weisse presents a vibrant sensory interplay between traditional lactic acidity and deep forest fruits. The aroma leads with a sharp, clean tang, immediately layered with the earthy, floral sweetness of blueberries and the punchy, vinous tartness of blackcurrants. On the palate, a soft, doughy wheat base provides a subtle sourdough foundation for a burst of dark berry flavors, transitioning from a brief initial fruit sweetness into a crisp, puckering finish. Highly effervescent and refreshing, it balances the rich berry character against a bright acidic backbone, making for an exceptionally vibrant and sessionable sour ale.
Appearance. Deep magenta to royal purple hue; hazy to opaque from fruit additions. Large, fizzy, light-pink head with poor retention. High effervescence.
Aroma. Moderate to moderately-high intensity; sharply sour lactic character dominates, complemented by intense notes of fresh blueberries and earthy blackcurrants. Light bready, raw dough wheat notes with no hop aroma.
Taste. Clean lactic sourness dominates and is quite strong. Immediate fruit impact with sweet blueberry and tart blackcurrant flavors. Grainy, doughy wheat malt provides a light, noticeable backbone. No hop bitterness or flavor; balance is driven by acidity rather than hops. Finishes very dry and crisp with lingering berry tartness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body; very high carbonation providing a prickly, refreshing fizz on the tongue. Low alcohol warmth. Notable crisp acidity with no astringency.
