This Hazy Double IPA captures a transcontinental collaboration, presenting an intense bouquet of New Zealand and American hop varieties. Motueka and Nelson offer vibrant layers of lime zest and crushed white grape, while Strata introduces a distinct, juicy strawberry note complemented by Azacca’s tropical passion fruit character. The sensory experience is lush and hop-forward, supported by a soft, pillowy malt backbone that balances the high hopping rate. Clean fermentation allows the complex interplay of stone fruit and citrus to lead, finishing with a smooth, well-integrated warmth that belies its 7.6% strength without sacrificing drinkability.
Appearance. Deep straw to light gold (6-8 SRM). Featuring a persistent, thick, white foamy head with significant lacing. Opaque, characteristic haze typical of modern hazy interpretations.
Aroma. High intensity hop-driven aroma. Dominant notes of fresh lime and lemon zest from Motueka, followed by the pungent tropicality of passion fruit and a unique berry-like strawberry sweetness from Strata. Subtle white grape and melon undertones from Nelson and Azacca are present, backed by a very low, neutral, grainy malt presence.
Taste. Initial hop punch of citrus and tropical fruit. Strong flavors of passion fruit, strawberry, and mango dominate the mid-palate. Bitterness is firm and moderately high but rounded and not harsh. A low, soft, neutral malt character provides a supportive foundation. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering, pleasant tropical hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, restrained alcohol warmth is present, enhancing the overall fullness without being solventy. No harsh hop-derived astringency.
