Outer Range Brewing Co. In the Steep is a quintessential Hazy IPA that showcases the vibrant, tropical potential of Citra hops. The sensory experience begins with a massive bouquet of ripe apricot and bright tangerine, underpinned by a sharp, zesty grapefruit essence. The palate is defined by a plush, pillowy texture and a soft bitterness that allows the lush fruit character to dominate. A supportive, lightly bready malt backbone provides a clean foundation without adding cloying sweetness. This beer finishes with a refreshing, juicy lingering fruitiness and a smooth, rounded mouthfeel typical of the style's best modern examples.
Appearance. Pale straw to deep gold (4-6 SRM); opaque, uniform haze providing a healthy shine. Dense, rocky, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring dominant notes of freshly peeled tangerine, sweet apricot, and citrus pith. Very low, clean bready malt in the background; fermentation esters are neutral and supportive of the intense hop profile.
Taste. High-impact flavors of grapefruit and tangerine juice lead the profile, followed by secondary notes of stone fruit. Low to moderate bitterness is well-disguised by the soft body. Malt provides a light, grainy foundation that transitions into an off-dry, juicy finish without any harsh hop burn or astringency.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably soft, creamy texture and smooth mouthfeel. Carbonation is moderate. No astringency or raw starchiness; a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present.
