Othmar Double IPA
This Double IPA presents a bold and assertive sensory profile, defined by its powerful hop character and a substantial 9% ABV. The experience opens with an intense aromatic display of citrus zest, resinous pine, and ripe tropical fruit, all layered over a clean, neutral malt base. Visually, it pours a brilliant deep gold with a persistent, creamy white head. The palate is dominated by a firm, aggressive bitterness that is expertly balanced by lean, grainy malt flavors. It concludes with a remarkably dry finish, leaving a smooth, warming alcohol presence and a lingering, resinous hop aftertaste that defines this powerful take on the style.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (8-10 SRM) with good clarity. Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma characterized by grapefruit, resinous pine, and mango. Supported by a low, clean, grainy maltiness in the background. Fermentation is clean with a very light fruity ester and a hint of smooth alcohol.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of citrus peel and pine. Bitterness is very high but smooth, lacking harshness. Low supportive malt character with a hint of toasted grain. Finishes very dry and clean with a long-lasting, bitter, hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Moderate-high carbonation. Displays a noticeable but restrained and smooth alcohol warmth appropriate for its strength. No hop-derived astringency.
