HDHC Dense is a masterclass in aromatic intensity, showcasing a saturating High Density Hop Charge within a robust American IPA framework. The sensory profile is dominated by a trio of powerhouse hops: Citra brings bright layers of tangerine and pink grapefruit, while Mosaic contributes complex notes of ripe blueberries and resinous pine. Distinctive Sabro adds a creamy, tropical depth reminiscent of toasted coconut and stone fruit. Despite the staggering hop load of eleven pounds per barrel, the beer maintains a structured bitterness and a clean malt backbone. The finish is remarkably smooth, balancing immense hop saturation with a dry, approachable character.
Appearance. Medium gold to light amber hue (SRM 7-10) with a persistent, dense white foam head that leaves intricate lacing. Significant haze is present due to the extreme hop loading.
Aroma. Intensity is high to pungent, featuring a bouquet of grapefruit, crushed berries, and distinct coconut. Citra and Mosaic provide a tropical fruit punch, while Sabro adds unique creaminess and herbal complexity. A very low, clean, grainy malt presence sits far in the background.
Taste. The palate is flooded with flavors of tangerine, mango, and berry, followed by a mid-palate of coconut and cedar. A medium-high bitterness provides a firm structure without becoming harsh or astringent. The malt is light and grainy, allowing the hop oils to coat the tongue before a clean, lingeringly fruity and dry finish.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, almost creamy texture derived from high hop oil concentration. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a crisp lift. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated.
