Ossett Brewery’s Hell Rat presents as a clean and approachable Munich Helles, characterized by its use of extra pale malt which provides a foundation of soft, grainy sweetness. Despite its devilish branding, the sensory profile is refined and balanced, featuring a delicate interplay of herbal and floral hop notes that flicker against a backdrop of fresh, bready malt. The fermentation is exceptionally clean, allowing the simple elegance of the ingredients to shine through. This lager is defined by its crispness and high drinkability, offering a refreshing, well-attenuated finish that invites another sip, perfectly capturing the spirit of a traditional German session beer.
Appearance.Pale gold with a brilliant clarity. Topped by a dense, persistent creamy white head that leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma.Moderate intensity featuring grainy-sweet malt aromas reminiscent of fresh bread dough and crackers. Supported by low floral and spicy hop notes. Fermentation is clean with no esters or diacetyl.
Taste. The palate opens with a moderately malty, grainy-sweet flavor and a soft, rounded mouthfeel. Bitterness is low but sufficient to balance the malt, leading into a dry, smooth finish. Subtle herbal and spicy hop flavors emerge mid-palate, lingering briefly in the clean aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Exceptionally smooth and well-lagered with no harshness or astringency, providing a highly refreshing and crisp character.
