Sentori olfattivi: il naso viene colpito da fragranze tostate, da un aroma dolce di caramello, caramella mou e frutta. È caratterizzato da decisi aromi di cherry, scotch e toni vinosi che ti accompagnano in un finale tutto speziato: zenzero, pepe bianco e cannella. Mentre la birra va scaldandosi scopriamo sempre più profumi di vaniglia e cereali, con i luppoli che donano note agrumate ed un leggero aroma di cioccolato e nocciola per chiudere in bellezza.
Corpo e gusto: il corpo è medio e la carbonatazione medio-bassa. Al palato il malto dolce e tostato fa da padrone, sostenuto da frutta secca, melassa, caramello, agrumi e spezie. In bocca si presenta con un'eccezionale setosità che accompagna il gusto verso un finale deliziosamente carico e caldo. La componente alcolica riscalda la bocca.
Finale: dominato da note affumicate e liquirizia.
Curiosità: (il caso Skull Splitter nel 2008) la birra Skull Splitter prodotta dall’Orkney Brewery fu al centro di una controversia riguardo al proprio nome. Il Portman Group, ovvero l’organo responsabile per il controllo di tutte le bevande alcoliche nel Regno Unito, aprì un'indagine sulla birra sostenendo che il suo nome risultava troppo aggressivo (skull splitter letteralmente significa "spacca cranio"). Ciò avrebbe potuto portare a un divieto della vendita della birra nel territorio britannico. Sinclair Brewery lanciò una campagna in difesa della birra che ricevette una grande risposta. L’argomento in difesa fu che la birra era conosciuta e venduta a livello internazionale, con una storia ventennale costellata di premi, come il riconoscimento del CAMRA per la birra britannica campionessa suprema dell'inverno 2001. Inoltre fu spiegato che l'origine del nome deriva dalla figura storica di Thorfinn Einarsson, settimo conte vichingo delle isole Orcadi intorno all'anno 950, che veniva soprannominato appunto Skull Splitter. In seguito a questa campagna il Portman Group decise il 23 dicembre 2008 di non portare avanti l'accusa contro la birra. Una birra che merita di essere trattata con rispetto!

salmone o aringhe affumicate, grigliate di carne, formaggi stagionati, bruschette, focacce, pasta e minestre di verdure e legumi. Tra i dolci, crostate e biscotti secchi e dessert a base di frutta. Io la vedo meglio ancora come birra da meditazione .
