This barrel-aged Belgian Dark Strong Ale offers a masterclass in complexity, merging the dark fruit esters of a traditional Quadrupel with the intense, peated character of Lagavulin whisky barrels. A robust barley-malt foundation provides bready and toasted caramel notes that support a rich tapestry of raisins and plums. The eleven-month maturation introduces layers of smoky peat, sweet vanilla, and a unique salty-peppery brightness that cuts through the malt richness. Expect a sophisticated interplay of fruity-sherry nuances and persistent smoke, finished with a warming, spicy alcohol presence that evolves gracefully on the palate as it warms.

Appearance. Deep mahogany to coppery-brown with ruby highlights; features a dense, moussy, light-tan head with excellent persistence and fine lacing. Generally clear.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of rich, bready-toasty malt and dark caramel. Prominent esters of dried cherries, figs, and plums are layered with peaty smoke, sweet vanilla, and a subtle briny, sea-salt character from the barrel. Soft, perfumy alcohol is present but well-integrated.

Taste. Initial impression of rich malt sweetness and dark fruit flavors like raisin and prune. The mid-palate reveals a robust barley-malt depth, followed by a salty-peppery burst and distinctive smoky peat. Hop bitterness is low, allowing the barrel tannins and 10.5% alcohol to provide balance. The finish is moderately dry with a lingering, smoky aftertaste and fruity-sherry nuances.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, luxurious texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a necessary lift to the palate. Noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth without being harsh or solventy.
