Ordio Minero Black Card Blesa

Ordio Minero’s Black Card Blesa offers a distinctive Aragonian interpretation of a Belgian Dark Strong Ale, evolving from the brewery’s Lignito base. The sensory experience is defined by a deep, bready-toasty malt foundation layered with rich caramel. While traditional versions favor subtle hops, this expression utilizes more aromatic hop varieties to drive a more pronounced floral and spicy character and a notably firmer, more intense final bitterness. Complex esters of plum, dried cherry, and fig harmonize with peppery yeast phenols. Despite its slightly lower strength for the style at 7%, it maintains a sophisticated, warming presence with a smooth, lingering finish.
Appearance. Deep coppery-brown with exceptional clarity. Topped by a huge, dense, and persistent light tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass (15–22 SRM).
Aroma. High intensity featuring a complex blend of rich, bready malt and dark caramel. Strong esters reminiscent of raisins and plums are balanced by spicy black pepper phenols. Low but noticeable floral and herbal hop notes provide an aromatic lift alongside a soft, perfumy alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is malty-rich with flavors of toasted bread and dark fruit like dates and figs. The mid-palate introduces spicy phenols and a floral hop character. Unlike more traditional examples, the bitterness is firm and more intense in the finish, providing a clean, moderately dry counterpoint to the deep malt sweetness. No roasted or burnt grain harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth, creamy texture. Carbonation is high but not sharp. Noticeable alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, lacking any solvent-like heat.
