Ophiussa Umbra
Ophiussa Umbra is a luxurious Imperial Stout that bridges the gap between roasted intensity and decadent confectionery. The integration of Senzu coffee beans provides a sophisticated layer of roasted elegance, evocative of dark chocolate and espresso, while the addition of coconut cream and condensed milk transforms the mouthfeel into a lush, silky experience. Jet black and opaque, it offers a complex bouquet of toasted coconut, rich cocoa, and sweet dairy. The palate is a harmonious blend of dark roasted malts balanced by a creamy, milky sweetness that lingers alongside a gentle alcohol warmth, delivering a truly indulgent, full-bodied sensory journey through darkness.
Appearance. Opaque jet black (SRM 40). Pours with a thick, long-lasting deep tan head that leaves significant lacing. High viscosity is apparent in the glass.
Aroma. Intense and complex aroma featuring prominent notes of freshly roasted espresso from the Senzu coffee beans. Sweet layers of toasted coconut and condensed milk provide a dessert-like profile, supported by deep dark chocolate and a hint of dark fruit esters like plum. Alcohol is present but smooth.
Taste. Initial impression of rich, sweet creaminess followed by bold roasted malt. Flavors of dark chocolate and bitter espresso are softened by the lush, tropical presence of coconut and the thick character of condensed milk. Medium-high bitterness provides balance to the residual sweetness. The finish is long and indulgent, with a clean roasted aftertaste and a smooth, warming glow.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a luxurious, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate-low, enhancing the creamy mouthfeel provided by the adjuncts. A gentle, smooth alcohol warmth is noticeable but well-integrated.
