Insolence is a commanding Imperial Stout that showcases the unadulterated influence of twelve months in Kilchoman barrels from the Islay region of Scotland. The sensory profile is defined by a profound interplay between the base beer's intense roast and the barrel’s distinctive Scotch character. Expect an aromatic landscape of pungent maritime peat smoke and medicinal iodine, balanced by notes of bittersweet chocolate and espresso. On the palate, the twelve percent alcohol provides a smooth, velvety warmth that carries rich spices, dark fruit, and a lingering earthy smokiness. It is a complex, chewy experience where the bold, peaty essence of the barrel shines with singular focus.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. A thin, dark tan head forms with moderate persistence, eventually receding to a fine ring and leaving viscous legs on the glass that hint at the high alcohol and body.

Aroma. High intensity. Deep aromas of espresso and dark cocoa are immediately met by a pungent, medicinal layer of maritime peat smoke and sea spray from the barrel. Subtle notes of dried figs and raisins emerge as the beer warms, supported by a rich, spicy oak character and a clean, warming alcohol presence.

Taste. A complex explosion of bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt, closely followed by the aggressive, earthy smokiness of Islay Scotch. The mid-palate reveals dark fruit esters—prunes and black currants—and a hint of black licorice. Bitterness is firm but integrated, balancing the residual malt sweetness. The finish is long and warming, dominated by lingering peat, iodine, and a dry, roasty char.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the beer's weight. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth spreads across the palate without any sharp or solventy edges.
