This decadent Imperial Stout delivers an immersive sensory experience, led by a rich tapestry of Sazerac rye whiskey barrel influence and lush caramel. The aroma is a dense bouquet of toasted coconut and creamy peanut butter, underpinned by the smooth fragrance of vanilla. On the palate, deep roasted malts provide a sturdy foundation for layers of sweet toffee and dark chocolate. The extended aging process harmonizes the bold 11% alcohol with the adjuncts, resulting in a complex, dessert-like profile. It finishes with a lingering warmth and a velvety nuttiness that defines its luxurious, indulgent character.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). It pours with a thick, deep tan head that shows moderate retention, leaving oily legs on the glass as the head recedes.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of bittersweet chocolate and heavy caramel maltiness. Strong notes of toasted coconut and creamy peanut butter dominate, supported by spicy rye whiskey and charred oak from the Sazerac barrels. Subtle vanilla and dark fruit esters like raisin are present in the background.
Taste. Initial impression is intensely sweet and roasty. Rich flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, and heavy caramel are layered with distinct fatty peanut butter and sweet coconut. The Sazerac barrels contribute a spicy grain character and vanilla smoothness. Bitterness is medium-high but balanced by significant residual sugar. The finish is long and warming with a lingering nutty toffee aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally viscous with a chewy, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, providing a luxurious creaminess without astringency.
