Appearance. Opaque, jet black (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, dark brown head that recedes to a persistent collar, leaving oily legs on the glass due to the high alcohol and coconut content.
Aroma. High intensity. Prominent notes of toasted coconut and sweet vanilla bean merge with deep cocoa and sugary marshmallow. The malt base provides a background of espresso and charred grain, while barrel aging contributes oaky tannins and a notable spirit-like warmth. Subtle dark fruit esters of prune and black cherry are present.
Taste. Initial impression is intensely sweet and dessert-like. Dominant flavors of dark chocolate, shredded coconut, and vanilla fudge are supported by a complex malt backbone of toast and caramel. The marshmallow adds a distinct creamy sweetness. Moderate bitterness from roasted grains provides structure against high residual sugar. The finish is long and warming with a lingering cocoa and oak aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, viscous, and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the syrupy mouthfeel. A strong, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout, reflecting the high gravity without being sharp or solventy.
