Olbea Tripel presents a classic Belgian Tripel profile, utilizing a combination of four malts to create a sophisticated, dense foundation. At 9% alcohol by volume, this golden ale offers a complex aromatic bouquet where spicy phenols of clove and black pepper intermingle with fruity esters of ripe banana. The fermentation character is assertive yet balanced, reflecting the heritage of its monastic origins. Subtle grain-sweet malt notes provide a rounded palate before transitioning into a firm bitterness and a characteristically dry, effervescent finish. It is a robust, well-integrated ale where the high alcohol remains dangerously deceptive amidst a tapestry of traditional Belgian yeast traits.
Appearance. Deep yellow to pale amber (5–7 SRM). Brilliant clarity with high effervescence. Features a long-lasting, rocky, creamy white head that leaves dense Belgian lacing on the glass as it recedes.
Aroma. High intensity. A complex, seamless bouquet of peppery and clove-like phenols balanced by moderate fruity esters of banana, lemon, and orange. The malt character is light and soft, suggesting honey and grain-sweetness from the multi-malt bill. Low spicy hop aroma and a soft, perfumy alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is a blend of soft malt sweetness and spicy yeast. Flavors of banana, clove, and black pepper dominate the mid-palate. Moderate hop bitterness provides balance against the four-malt backbone. The finish is notably dry and clean, with a lingering spicy-fruity aftertaste and no cloying sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body, appearing lighter than the 9% ABV suggests due to high attenuation. High carbonation creates a lively, effervescent sensation. Alcohol provides a deceptive, light warmth without being harsh or fusel. Smooth and creamy texture.
